In Middle School we focus on a providing an engaging and empowering education that incorporates essential middle school level skills and character development, with rigorous real world education. All of this is then rooted in STEM-based problem solving and fueled by constant exploration, inquiry and discovery.
Our students are thinkers, doers, change makers and innovators. They develop the skills of critical thinking, collaboration, safe failure and applied innovation through an exciting and challenging integrated STEM curriculum.
At the heart of our innovative model is a student-centered and teacher guided approach to learning where students become curious, creative and active drivers and problem solvers to real world challenges.
Our teachers are catalysts, champions, guides and experts in igniting a love of learning while teaching appropriate use of technology, collaboration, teamwork and organization to achieve goals.
We work tirelessly to provide an exciting and engaging education that unlocks the unlimited potential of every student while fostering the character and confidence needed to succeed in an exponentially changing world.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Our strong, innovative and problem-based curriculum is futuristic, entrepreneurial and fun. Our students are challenged to think outside-the-box and maximize their potential in every academic area. They are challenged to develop the essential soft skills necessary to be productive and valued members of the 21st Century workforce. We offer a variety of technology and computer science classes focused on programming in a variety of languages, creative applications like 3D animation/modeling and designing, and building games.
Additionally our students are able to earn industry level IT certificates by taking classes in A+, Net+, and Security+. In our engineering Labs, students fine-tune their problem-solving and creative skills as they take classes in manufacturing, robotics, Computer Aided Design (CAD), digital electronics, and transportation technologies.
The infusion of technology goes beyond the labs and is integral in the liberal arts classrooms as a tool to help students use information which is abundantly available to create and build new knowledge. Teachers facilitate students through significant problem based learning (PBL) experiences where they are not simply acquiring new information, rather students work collaboratively to solve real-world problems in real-world contexts.
The foundation of the engaged real-world learning at the high school level, is our focus on ensuring all students fully master the basic skills in reading, writing, communication, math and critical thinking. We aim to support and challenge students and provide the firm foundation necessary to be successful with whatever pathway they choose to take after high school.
Beyond the basics, our students take risks. We challenge them to create, learn and do things never done before. We embrace safe failure as a way to push forward. We are an exponential learning environment that engages students at all levels. We teach career navigation skills, business ethics with character education, personal responsibility, teamwork and problem solving with creativity.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1652380397144{border-top-width: 3px !important;border-right-width: 3px !important;border-bottom-width: 3px !important;border-left-width: 3px !important;border-left-color: #fcdf5d !important;border-left-style: solid !important;border-right-color: #fcdf5d !important;border-right-style: solid !important;border-top-color: #fcdf5d !important;border-top-style: solid !important;border-bottom-color: #fcdf5d !important;border-bottom-style: solid !important;border-radius: 3px !important;}”][vc_custom_heading text=”Our Mission” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center|color:%234caf36″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1593626903531{padding-right: 20px !important;}”]

Our KOSON Instructional Model is our secret sauce. It is what inspires our students and our staff every day.
What is it? It is Problem-Based Learning, done the KOSON way. That means it is a teaching methodology where learning is student-centered and driven by relevant, real-world problems.
Throughout their instruction, students learn about a problem, ask questions, research, brainstorm solutions, test, analyze and take action, all while learning the state standards.
Students access background knowledge and investigate standards, which are aligned concepts that might help solve the problem.
PBL encourages peer collaboration, critical thinking and creativity, all while learning responsible use of technology.
Working with industry leaders, students find new ways to collaborate and seek new solutions.
Students are in the driver’s seat of their education through meaningful learning opportunities that allow for them to constantly seek new answers and push themselves even further.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Click here to learn more” style=”3d” color=”success” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fkosonschools.org%2Fabout-us%2Fkoson-instructional-model%2F”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”custom” style=”dotted” border_width=”3″ accent_color=”#fcdf5d”][vc_custom_heading text=”The Timeline” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center|color:%234caf36″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][scp_our_process title=”Our Timeline”][scp_our_process_item title=”March 16, 2022″ bar_color=”#fcdf5d”]Application Received by DCSD[/scp_our_process_item][scp_our_process_item title=”April 19, 2022″ bar_color=”#fcdf5d”]Applicant Interview with DCSD CART Team[/scp_our_process_item][scp_our_process_item title=”April 26, 2022″ bar_color=”#fcdf5d”]Public Hearing at DCSD Board Meeting[/scp_our_process_item][scp_our_process_item title=”June 7, 2022″ bar_color=”#fcdf5d”]DCSD Board approves/denies application[/scp_our_process_item][scp_our_process_item title=”July/August 2022″ bar_color=”#fcdf5d”]If approved, begin implementation of Year Zero plans.
